The former House speaker offers a lucid, thoughtful, and incisive view of the political issues of our day. For example, 70 percent or more of Americans, he says, agree on the key issues, with views that are generally conservative. The red state/blue state balance, created by the media, he believes, is largely a myth. Gingrich's wife, Callista, reads her husband's text competently but with no excitement. It would have been better, in this case, if the author had narrated his own book. But the production has bonuses. It features the former congressman delivering a speech to the American Enterprise Institute, followed by an interview of some length, conducted by Callista. So we do hear his voice, and it is both passionate and articulate. D.R.W. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2008]
