by | Read by David Threlfall

Mystery & Suspense • 15.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1998

The author is British, as is the narrator. Threlfall is fine when he's reading British, Scottish and Irish accents, but his American accents are terrible. He doesn't maintain them well either. There's a lot of slippage--often he reads the American characters with Irish or English accents. Pacing is problematic also. Within each chapter there are several scene shifts, but, since Threlfall never pauses, it takes a while for the listener to figure out where the scene has shifted to and who is speaking. I had to keep rewinding and replaying to follow what was going on. S.S.R. © AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT/NOV 00]
