Louisiana

by | Read by Amzie Strickland

Fiction • 3 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1992

Listeners will appreciate this obscure, romantic tale if they keep in mind that it was written in 1880. This is one of Burnett's early stories of a young girl's coming-of-age in which Louisiana Rogers masquerades as an educated young lady in a supposed prank. The reader is easily believable as the author, telling a story which reflects on Burnett's years spent in Tennessee. Strickland's mature, mellow, honeyed voice switches easily between the Appalachian dialect and standard speech of both genders and characters. At times it melds into a murmur one has to strain to hear. P.L. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG 92]
