Mystery & Suspense • 9 hrs. • Anthology • ©

Each member of the Adams Round Table, a kind of Algonquin Round Table of mystery writers, contributed a story about murder and its aftermath to this new anthology. With the exception of Peter Straub's overly long entry, "Isn't It Romantic?", all of the 11 stories are agreeable time-passers, and a few are engrossing. Happily, the best stories have been matched with the best readers, resulting in some memorable listening experiences. Karen Murray's tough, heartfelt reading of Joyce Harrington's prison story, "Eunice and Wally," is a particular standout. The interesting mix of story types and reading styles makes this a good gift for someone who hasn't yet tried audiobooks. J.P.M. © AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT/NOV 99]
