Struggling for emotional recovery after killing a man in the line of duty, National Park Service Ranger Anna Pigeon embarks on a raft trip in Texas's Big Bend National Park with her husband. When the rafters discover an almost-dead pregnant woman entangled in a river snag, Anna's restful adventure turns into a life-threatening situation with dead bodies and plenty of unanswered questions. Joyce Bean portrays Anna's intense determination despite her shaky self-doubt. Anna leans heavily on the unwavering support of her new husband, Paul, portrayed by Bean as lovingly patient. Bean's nimble touch with the Hispanic voices is excellent, all soft around the edges, and she really shines in presenting the smarmy mayor of Houston, who is in Big Bend to announce her candidacy for governor.
