A NATURAL HISTORY OF LOVE

by | Read by Barbara Caruso

Contemporary Culture • 15.75 hrs • Unabridged • © 1994

Diane Ackerman examines those ever-popular topics, love and sex. Her approach, however, is somewhat different from that of a social scientist. Ackerman's study blends research with creative writing. The result is poetic enough for abstract thinkers and scientific enough for everyone else. At sixteen hours the book is lengthy for nonfiction, and interest lags in the last hours. Caruso's careful articulation adds authenticity. She subordinates herself to the content so the listener visualizes Ackerman reading her own work. Though length is a problem, the reading is flawless.
