Michael Page voices more than two dozen characters in this epic fantasy. He tells the story of Pazel, whose life is intertwined with those of mages, princesses, imperial spies, and intelligent rats. The Empire of Arqual has long forgotten the secrets that allowed them to build the great ship Chathrand, an imperial merchant ship larger than any other vessel on the seas. On it, many passengers are bound for the Crownless Lands to fulfill a secret mission. Page moves smoothly between characters, delivering various accents, the shrill voices of the rats, the guttural growl of the ship's captain, and the precise feminine tone of Princess Thasha. The varied perspectives help maintain the suspense, and Page's attention to character makes it easy for listeners to lose themselves in the wide-ranging story.
