Gomes, minister of the Memorial Church at Harvard University, has collected sermons for key points of the Christian year. Beginning with Advent, he guides the listener, giving ample background information on each holiday. His booming voice with its distinct Massachusetts accent sounds as if he is right at home behind the pulpit. His voice resonates and is reminiscent of James Earl Jones's. He speaks slowly and with much emphasis, and quotes scripture frequently in a lulling singsong cadence. This is a well-spoken and enlightening production.
