THE TRAVELLER RETURNS

This complex thriller is set against the backdrop of WWII. Diana Bishop’s narration helps to convey the suspicions of a family in 1940s England. These arise with the apparent return of Lady Ann Jocelyn, who the family believed died earlier in the war. Sir Philip Jocelyn remains convinced that the person who has shown up is an impostor, and intrigue and murder follow. Bishop’s studied narration helps increase the tension while keeping the pace moving. Her subtle character portrayals reflect the clipped tones of the period.
