Michael Russotto gives this unusual and controversial book the reading it merits. McCarthy and Masson rattle scientific cages with their premise that animals experience and display emotions. Russotto presents the pros and cons with equal clarity. However, when he delivers the case histories and anecdotes of various animals and their behaviors, he adopts a more reasonable and logical tone.
