Inking pictures and words on people has become big business and art over the past 15 years, and the author is the current reigning champ of that medium. This is his story—curses and all. Johnny Heller has just the kind of subversive voice that this offbeat book deserves. It’s raspy and not at all clear, and his pacing is slippery at best due to his speeding up and slowing down in tune with the book’s action. However, he exudes enthusiasm, and we get his natural voice for the entire book; there are no character voices other than a small discernible change in tone when someone speaks. The best part is that he’s engaging and sounds as if he’s having a lot of fun. R.I.G. © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2013]
