I’M THE ONE THAT I WANT

Margaret Cho was determined from a young age to be her own person and distinguish herself from her parents and the life they expected from her. Her pain and anger, cloaked in humor and sarcasm, are evident as she recounts her story of seeking acceptance from others (and herself) and her journey through an oblivion of dieting, alcohol, and drugs. The result is profane, raunchy, outspoken, and graphically sexual. Cho taps into these strong emotions, and, as she described coming out of her period of self-loathing and into healing, her words and her presentation lose some of their edge. Ultimately she moves beyond her anger and out of her self-absorption into self-acceptance.
