God, guns, and danger converge in this Christian adventure. Jake and Lila Cooper and their father, Dr. Cooper, go to a remote Pacific island in search of a missing missionary. As narrator, author Peretti clearly warms to his theme of biblical apocalypse, reading with gusto and sometimes quoting scripture as the Cooper family is captured by the island's pagan cult leader. His deep, aged, and resonant voice makes a fine Jake and Dr. Cooper but doesn't create a believable Lila. Peretti's treatment of Candle, the lone Polynesian, has an air of condescension. Candle's voice is doltish, and when thanked for assistance, it sounds like praise offered to an obedient animal. This is the second in the Cooper Kids Adventure Series, originally published in 1986.
