The private and professional lives of Private Investigator Lorraine Page blend as she follows a twisted tale of murder, abuse, fraud, and greed. Lorelei King maintains an even pace. Although the story is set primarily in California, some of the supporting characters sound like transplants from the Bronx, but this also effectively conveys the impression that these are solid working-class folks. Although King's male voices are a bit throaty, they serve their purpose: The characters and their personalities are easy to keep track of. LaPlante relies a lot on interior dialogue and one-sided conversations, which King keeps moving and animated. J.E.M. (c) AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/MAY 02]
