An intricate, intelligent espionage thriller, The Reckoning's myriad characters from England, Poland, Russia, and Germany allow Christian Rodska to employ many of his fabulous accents. He is a perfect choice for the intensity and political fervor of the heroine, Katya Felinska, and her lover, Max Inman; it's virtually impossible to remember that this is a one-man reading. The author is more interested in the attitudes of the Soviet and British agents than in covert actions, so rough stuff is usually reported rather than endured.
