F. Scott Fitzgerald's short stories haven't had the enduring appeal of his novels, and this pair of tales offers a glimpse into his large body of work in the enre. The stronger of the two. "Bernice Bobs Her Hair," is the 70-minute story of a teenaged girl who exacts revenge on a cousin who cruelly exploits her vanity. "The Jelly-Bean" is a bleaker story of the Jazz Age idleness and ennui that Fitzgerald captures so effectively. Kimberly Schraf's dialogue is often delivered in a drawl that seems somewhat out of place with the settings, but her narration is well paced and confident, with a pleasant timbre. D.B.
