THE LAST THING HE NEEDS

Narrator Michael Stellman does a faultless job telling the story of Tommy O'Shea, who at age 22 becomes responsible for his seven siblings. Stellman further demonstrates his skill in portraying O'Shea's endearing, sometimes turbulent, gay relationship with cop Bobby McAlister. Listeners will meet a wide array of well-drawn characters and experience a mixture of humor, sorrow, and sarcasm. Most enjoyable is Stellman's rendering of the O'Shea kids (aged 1-17), who work together (usually) to help their older brother. The family's bad luck finally changes when McAlister and his mother, Judy--also splendidly presented--join ranks with the O'Sheas. This charming story demonstrates that the human spirit prevails.
