When Joe Stoshack cleans up an old lady's attic to earn a few bucks, he finds a rare baseball card of the legendary Honus Wagner. The card is valuable and thus begins a journey in which Joe meets Honus, plays in the 1909 World Series, and reunites the old woman with Honus. Filled with historical baseball lore, this should please baseball fans, as well as those with a sentimental bent. Johnny Heller, who has narrated Gutman's work previously, is splendid. His voice, as others have noted, has a juvenile-sounding quality, and his performance of both dialogue and narrative scores a homer in this production. Intonation, pacing, and emphasis are almost perfect. As characterized by Heller, Joe Stoshack is a young man who is amazed at time-travel and all the other magical events of this story. M.T.F.
