THE PERFECT DAUGHTER

by | Read by Lin Sagovsky

Fiction • 8.7 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2000

The apparent suicide of 19-year old Verona North drives her father's cousin, suffragette Nell Bray, to investigate the death as a possible murder. It's 1914 in England, and Nell must contend with persecution from the government, suspicion from the family, and a host of colorful anarchists and other characters who were part of Verona's life. This gives Lin Sagovsky a chance to exercise her ability with voices; she's especially good with the women. Her first-person narration as Nell brings out the suffragette's intelligence and independence. The dénouement is less interesting than the period details--crackling phones, vicious anti-feminist police, and Great War clouds on the horizon. J.B.G.
