BRIDGET JONES The Edge of Reason

There may be some more entertaining reading experience than Barbara Rosenblat's performances of Bridget Jones, but I can't think what they might be. In this wholly delicious sequel to her earlier adventures, Bridget goes on gaining and losing weight, jobs, and boyfriend Mark Darcy, while her faux friend, Rebecca, plots, her batty mother comes home from Africa with a tame tribesman, her father drinks in the garden shed, and Bridget herself is framed for dope smuggling in Thailand. Bridget is a wholly charming goofball, and Barbara Rosenblat is a genius at creating characters of many ages and sexes, each with an instantly recognizable voice. B.G.
