THE DIRECT PATH

Andrew Harvey challenges two centuries of thought on living the life of a mystic by saying that such a path requires no system, no priest, no guru, no temple. The true mystic, he claims, is a social activist who embraces a life of contemplation, prayer, and service. A former fellow at All Souls College, Oxford, Harvey speaks passionately in a smooth and mellow voice. And yet, at times, its very "properness" is somewhat off-putting.
