Narrator Brittany Pressley steers this tale with a confidence that keeps listeners grounded. Sheils Crane, student body chair, is perfectly in control of her world and her future--and completely unprepared when a pterodactyl student comes crashing onto the athletic fields, turning her high school, and her life, upside down. Cumyn's quirky teenage romp is a commentary on high school politics, acceptance, personal relationships, and growing older with varying degrees of dignity. Pressley's pacing can become frenzied in high-octane moments, but she speaks at a slower, more deliberate pace during introspective passages. Sheils is a difficult but determined protagonist, simultaneously human and frustrating. Pressley's take on her is refreshing and relatable.
