Hart's powerful story about the lasting impact of childhood trauma on two siblings is deepened by John Lee's deliberate narration. Lee's steady delivery of the protagonist, Jack, illustrates the character's attempt to remain in control of all aspects of his life - his work, his relationships, and his own emotions. Jack's sister, Kate, on the other hand, is not in control of anything in her life. Lee successfully portrays the conflicted woman with changes in tone and inflection.
