Do monks and money mix? When Father Robert of Detroit's tiny, newly established St. Stephen's Monastery gives sight to a blind woman, the offerings start pouring in. That's when the city's archbishop enlists priest-sleuth Father Robert Koesler to find out if these miracles are fake--or fact. Throw in a mad monk lusting after the miracle-maker's windfall, and you've got Kienzle's eleventh police procedural, one of the series fastest-paced entries. Although narrator Edward Holland tends to make the few women in the story speak in simpering monotones, his male voices are varied and convincing.
