In a future in which the science of genetics has run amok, only four heroic "fabricants," children put together in a laboratory using "leftover" genetic material, can stop their mad creator from taking over the world. Although this is a sequel to Carmichael's ORIGINATOR, it's easy to pick up the story of Callie and Adam and their friends. Francis Greenslade, a TV personality in Australia, pitches his listeners into mounting tension and midnight raids on rebel headquarters. He manages girls' voices in a natural way and puts a bit of Darth Vader into the villain's evil speeches. This is a thinking kid's action-adventure in a future that seems wholly possible. M.C.
