A lively, sharp performance by author/narrator Darron Cardosa absolutely justifies the title of this scathing memoir of working in the restaurant business. Cardosa combines crisp diction, perfectly timed pauses, and controlled intonation to deliver sarcastic jabs about disrespectful and ignorant customers. His humor generally has a forceful slap. While many of his observations on customers' perceptions about waiters are true and his stories about customer interactions are true as well, the author's over-the-top comments and slams become tiresome, especially when most are combined with the "F-word" to intensify the biting descriptions. While he mostly redirects his own painful experience of slurs by labeling his customers, there are some genuinely sweet and funny episodes, such as his attempts to play waiter as a child with his younger brothers and his sentimental memories of his grandmother, Rita.
