DISPLACED PERSONS Growing Up American After the Holocaust

by | Read by George Guidall

Biography & Memoir • 13 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2001

As the author, a journalist, explains in his introduction, much has been written about the Holocaust but little about the aftermath for its victims. So he hopes to fill the gap with this memoir of growing up in America as a Jewish refugee from Poland. His intimate, detailed account of facts and feelings is sober and mature, at least as read by George Guidall. Author and narrator avoid the sentimentality and melodrama that so often permeate survivors' public reminiscences. Oh, there's plenty of emotion here, but it is tempered with insight and, thankfully, devoid of self-pity. A welcome addition to the literature. Y.R.
