Not enough good things can be said about this compilation of the Theatre Royale radio dramas performed by master thespian Sir Laurence Olivier and an ensemble cast in the 1950’s. The choice of pieces is a great one, offering a wide range of material--mystery to comedy--by some of the best authors in history. Of course, Olivier shines in his roles but never upstages the other actors (if such a thing is possible on audio!). Olivier is bold as “The Canterville Ghost,” befuddled as the well-intentioned employer in “Bartleby,” wily and clever in “The Inspector General.” Nostalgia radio buffs will thrill at this audio, but so will anyone who appreciates fine performing.
