HANG ON, MONKEY!

Nancy Wu's clear and precise narration suits this nonfiction pre-reader. Her pacing is deliberately slow (but not overly so), and she leaves long pauses for young readers to take in the photographic illustrations. In simple sentences a variety of monkeys are explored--from the golden lion tamarin and red howler of South America to the mandrill of Africa and the snow monkey and white-handed gibbon of Asia. A glossary page and a habitat map, along with sound effects of the various monkeys, complete the production. Repeated listens are in order, and Nancy Wu is easy on the ear.
