Narrator Christian Fox delivers another breathless installment of Sophie Jordan's Devil's Rock series. Sheriff's daughter Faith Walters loves her new house--but not her reclusive new neighbor, ex-convict North Callaghan. The noise from his sexual exploits penetrates her bedroom walls far too regularly. Fox dances around their back-and-forth courtship with satisfying familiarity. He throws tons of effervescent humor into Faith's inner monologues and uses a lower, flatter voice for North, appropriate for his prison PTSD. In North's most private moments with Faith, Fox adopts a sweet, gravelly edge that is sugar-shock ear candy. The sound of breathing and an overly fast pace detract slightly from Fox's versatile performance with memorable secondary voices, including North's "flavor-of-the-week" girlfriends.
