SCIPIO

by | Read by Paul Matthews

Historical Fiction • 16.25 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1998

SCIPIO is a historical fiction about the great Roman general who defeated Hannibal. Scipio and his secretary, Bostar, recount the stories of their lives, starting from childhood. Paul Matthews narrates without differentiating between the two main characters, so it's impossible to tell whose story one is listening to. The other characters are given a pronounced British working-class accent, which is distracting to say the least, especially when Cato speaks. Matthews reads the Latin and Greek words smoothly and describes the horrific military scenes without any emotion. M.B.K. (c) AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/MAY 03]
