COOK, CAT, AND COLANDER

Earphones Award Winner

by | Read by Ann Windsor

Biography & Memoir • 3 hrs. 39 min. • Unabridged • © 1992

Mrs. Workman, a former secretary anxious to experience a different lifestyle, packs up her fiercely independent cat and goes to work as a cook-housekeeper for several uppercrust British families. The twelve episodes ably describe life as a member of England's domestic class with humor and compassion and are enhanced by Ann Windsor's smooth, cultured reading. A smattering of Briticisms may pose some problems for the uninitiated, and the chapter headings would have been better left out. But this is a marvelous peek into the homes of the "other half" and a fun listen, particularly for the confirmed Anglophile. S.G.
