Unwed mother Sally Jupp has been sent to work as a housemaid. Her presence unsettles everyone. Her murder unsettles them more until Inspector Dagliesh solves the crime. Franklyn-Robbins is a fine reader, with an elegant voice superbly suited to the intricate problems of relationships in the upper classes. With subtle changes of pitch and excellent phrasing and pacing--particularly for the world-weary Dagliesh--he captures the best of the British cozy.
