In this audiobook, Princess Diana is imagined to have survived the car crash that actually took her life. Stina Nielsen's understated portrait of Diana is attuned and distinct, believable and empathic. Exposition heavy, this alternate history is mostly extrapolation on how Diana felt about boyfriend Dodi, ex-husband Charles, love-of-her-life Hasnat, and the paparazzi. The story plays out in scenes designed to reveal her motives and aspirations through dialogue. Nielsen enhances the dignified yet gilded text with a reporter's air of conveying nonfiction. Short on new drama for obvious reasons, the audiobook is true in tone to the legend of "the most famous woman in the world" at the time of her tragic death.
