Narrator Joel Froomkin delightfully brings the Hatter, other familiar characters, and new Wonderland landscapes to life in a story that sends Alice's younger brother, Henry, now a teenager, back through the looking-glass. Froomkin's character voices are perfectly tuned, meshing easily with the countless portrayals of the same characters that audiences have enjoyed for more than a 150 years. Henry's American accent is initially an unexpected sour note, but it's true to the author's text, and it effectively serves to isolate "Boy Alice" and mark him as a Wonderland outsider. The general narrative voice of the book echoes the same lilt as the voice Froomkin chooses for the Hatter, and it's a welcome guide through this sweet, enjoyable tale.
