IGGY PECK, ARCHITECT

Since the age of 2, Ignatius Peck has been enthralled with creating structures using any available building material--coconut pie and pancakes included. But his second-grade teacher deems architecture study superfluous to her curriculum. In the narrator role, Andrea Beaty balances animated reporting, a mother's dismay, a teacher's disdain, and the author's sympathy for the teacher. Beaty's pacing is brisk, but she pauses to emphasize rhyme and word choice. How does a class trip to Blue River Pass have a profound effect on this class?
