This audiobook, about a party set in a remote country house, is #24 in the Faith Fairchild series. It's an atmospheric classic whodunit. Faith is both the event's caterer and sleuth, hired to forestall the host's murder. Despite a promising premise, Faith as chef is more satisfying than Faith as detective. While the mystery suffers from a weak plot and few charismatic characters, narrator Tanya Eby does make Faith appealing, giving her a cheerful, confident voice and a warm conversational style. What listeners will enjoy most about this production is the celebration of good food. Eby gives us a character we would all love to hire as a caterer but maybe not as a bodyguard.
