FEYNMAN'S RAINBOW is more about Mlodinow's internal struggles during his first year as a physicist than it is about his encounters with Richard Feynman, Murray Gell-Mann, and other famous scientists at Cal Tech. With changes in tone and cadence, Michael Prichard signals shifts from spoken dialogue, internal monologue from the past, and reflective authorial asides in the present. What's more, Prichard sounds both authoritative about physics and emotionally distraught when Mlodinow recounts his cancer scare. However, this audio version has one weakness. The print edition differentiated between sections based on tapes and notes and those that were not (and which might be lightly fictionalized for effect) via italics, which are, of course, missing here.
