CONSTABLE ALONG THE HIGHWAY

These lively vignettes of police service in North Yorkshire are humorously and delightfully read by Graham Roberts, a former TV announcer in Scotland and Yorkshire. In the 1960s, the village of Aidenfield has a new Welsh sergeant, Craddock. He and PC Rhea, the local bobby, must deal with a number of colorful characters, including elderly Casper Netherton, who finds driving too dangerous and takes up "reckless" bicycling; elderly cousins Doris and Constance Potter, who refuse to divulge their true ages; and attractive Helen Newcombe, who literally stops traffic.
