Narrator Laurel Lefkow does a fine job of portraying Dr. E. Ridley Woodhouse, the new--female--doctor in an 1890s Colorado town. Reflecting her hard-won East Coast education, Ridley is gentle and precise as she examines her patients and prescribes exactly what they need. Ben, her neighbor, who is the new sheriff, is down-to-earth and practical. Lefkow brings Ridley alive, coloring her speech with emotions when needed and using a practical tone otherwise. Ben, on the other hand, is characterized through thoughtful, caring turns of phrase and an authoritative voice. East Coast accent versus Western twang--Lefkow entwines the two opposites as each is attracted to the other. A.M.G. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine [Published: AUGUST 2018]
