The stated goal of this book is to hold up as a model of behavior the piety and faith of Susanna Wesley, wife of the well-known preacher, Samuel Wesley. Throughout her life in the seventeenth century, Wesley had a strong influence over those she directly affected and also through the teachings and beliefs she passed on to her children, particularly Charles, the founder of Methodism, and John, a prolific writer of hymns. Nadia May is a no-nonsense narrator, just as Wesley was a no-nonsense woman. She imparts a sense of respect for the character and example of Wesley.
