Though entrepreneur Chip Conley occasionally sounds like he's reading, his overall performance sounds believably optimistic and youthful. He keeps listeners connected with his refreshing ideas about what a mature manager can contribute and learn when collaborating with the boy wonders who are running many of today's tech companies. The 50-something author, who took a mentor/adviser position at Airbnb, says that many mid- and late-life managers feel threatened and undervalued in today's youth-oriented digital world, but he reminds us that mature managers have good judgment, experience, and social intelligence to offer younger leaders. By adopting a beginner's mind, they can not only make a difference but also reignite their own curiosity and learn new ways to relate to others.
