DR. FINLAY Adventures of a Black Bag

A gently humorous, sentimental, inoffensive story series of a doctor's life in rural Scotland between the World Wars--an "All Things Great and Small" with human patients--is dramatized by BBC Radio. Seasoned Dr. Cameron tells of the misadventures of his stubborn and idealistic young partner, Finlay, in six half-hour episodes. The meticulous, well-paced collection boasts thoroughly professional acting in a finely textured soundscape. Although the tales feature all sorts of rustic characters, the programs rather skimp on personality. Nonetheless, they make fine, undemanding hearth-side listening. Y.R.
