Fans of the authors' "Sawbones" podcast will have heard these true stories before, and anyone who's come across a book about old-time medicine will know a few. This production can be macabre, opening with autopsies and continuing through topics like plague, trepanation, and cannibalism. Listeners will have to wait til it's almost over to hear about leeches. The production is also flip, irreverent, and informal. Typically, Dr. Sydnee McElroy, an actual medical professional, presents the facts with a few deadpan sarcastic asides and "fun medical facts" thrown in. Husband Justin, a layman, adds jokes. Listeners who don't mind being reminded that honey is "bee vomit" will enjoy this, and the authors claim quite a few medical professionals as followers.
