ROSIE MEADOWS REGRETS...

In this glib British comedy, the title character marries a boorish drunkard who further erodes her shaky self-esteem. After he urinates on the baby-sitter's new trench coat, she resolves to divorce him. But she's a bit scatterbrained, a bit wimpy, and there are many banana peels for her to slip on before she reaches the end of the road. A capable comedienne, Jan Francis energetically delivers every pratfall as if it were actually funny. She squeaks irritatingly in the higher register but otherwise does a more than capable job. Y.R.
