Author Bill Knox first introduced Chief Inspector Thane and Inspector Moss in this novel. The death of a policeman and a reporter initiate a crime investigation. As narrator James Bryce methodically spins the details, we are privy to the cunning mind of a malicious journalist. His English accent befits the setting, and he provides an array of characters, including the suspect, detectives, parents, a girlfriend, shop-owners, and unwilling accomplices with a bevy of voices.
