Narrator Christian Fox brings a disquieting vibe to seduction on L.A.'s Sunset Strip. Waitress Lola and her boyfriend face a moral dilemma: Should they sell Lola--for one night--to wealthy investor Beau in order to buy their failing music bar? Lola's dead-end existence is given physical weight in Fox's weary narration. Through tone and pacing, he manages to build quiet nostalgia for the bar's bygone glory days. Beau's voice is remote yet tempting. Attraction clearly shades Lola's decision, but Beau remains aloof. Fox slows his delivery of Beau's dialogue to convey his reluctance to reveal his inner self. Lola's voice is tighter, clearer, and just slightly higher. Intensely delivered bedroom scenes raise more questions than they answer. Listeners will be looking for the next installment. C.A.
