This entry in Brooks's new trilogy (part of the Shannara series) returns to the Ilse Witch twenty years after she has given up her evil ways. She is now serving as head of the Druid Council. But old suspicions work against her, and when she disappears, few seem to care, or even notice. Scott Brick narrates with his usual flair. His characters are memorable, providing continuity from prior books in the series and assisting newcomers in keeping track of the main characters.
