THE SABRE'S EDGE

This historical fiction with a military focus was written by a former British officer, whose experience should lend his novel considerable authenticity. Set among the Sixth Light Dragoons in the Raj of the 1820s, the novel rings true, not only in its period detail, but also in the strategic thinking underlying the extended battle scenes. It is, however, thin on character and literary finesse. Erick Graham adopts an even, detached tone throughout, reading accurately, if with little color. Y.R.
