Mitchard gives us the riveting story of a family's grief as its members cope with the disappearance of a three-year-old child. The aftermath is more shattering than the abduction itself, splintering the parents and siblings into painful fragments, all flying in opposite directions. Her writing is wonderful, with such original descriptions as a woman moving "slower than weight loss." Dana Ivey gives vitality to this tale with her heart-felt portrayals of each member of the Cappadora family, as well as the friends and professionals who try to help solve the mystery.
